What Is the Home Gummy Kit?
This DIY gummy making kit combines five essential components for making homemade gummies: a syrup base, flavored syrup, agar agar, citric acid, and silicone molds.
The agar agar is the setting ingredient that gives the gummy mixture its firm texture. The syrups provide the liquid base and sweetness, while fruit syrup adds flavor and citric acid provides a tart finish.
Droppers are not included. A measuring cup with a spout or a small ladle can be used to transfer the mixture into the molds.
How to Make Homemade Gummies
Combine approximately 2 parts tapioca syrup with 1 part fruit syrup in a saucepan. Use enough mixture to fill your molds.
While the mixture is still cold, whisk in approximately 1 teaspoon (2 g) of agar agar per 1 cup (240 ml) of liquid.
Bring the mixture to a full rolling boil and continue boiling for approximately 2 minutes, stirring continuously until the agar agar has completely dissolved.
Remove from heat and stir in your chosen extract, if desired, along with approximately ¼ teaspoon of citric acid per cup of liquid.
Immediately pour the mixture into the silicone molds before it cools.
Allow the gummies to set at room temperature for approximately 30–60 minutes. Once set, gently flex the silicone mold to remove the gummies.
For a slightly less sticky finish, you can lightly coat the gummies with sugar mixed with a small amount of citric acid.
Helpful Tip
Make a small test batch before making a full batch. Different extracts and ingredients can affect the final texture, so you may need to adjust the amount of agar agar in future batches.
How Many Batches Can It Make?
The kit is designed to make approximately 3–4 full batches, depending on batch size and ingredient quantities used.
The silicone molds, agar agar, and citric acid can remain available after the syrups are used. For additional batches, you may only need to replenish the two syrups.
