Vegetable Glycerin USP is the 100% pure, food-grade glycerin we use as the base for alcohol-free tinctures and as the thick half of an aromatherapy diffuser liquid. It is clear, syrupy and slightly sweet, mixes with water in any ratio, and pulls water-soluble plant compounds well, which makes it the standard base for a glycerite when you want to skip alcohol.

What it is. Glycerin is a simple sugar alcohol pressed from plant oils and purified to USP pharmacopeia standard. The same material is used in food, cosmetics and pharmacy compounding. We repack it from bulk gallons into smaller bottles at our bench.
How to use it. For a basic glycerite, fill a jar about one third with dried herb, cover with roughly 3 parts glycerin to 1 part distilled water, cap it, shake it daily and keep it out of light for 4 to 6 weeks, then strain through a fine mesh bag into a dropper bottle. Fresh herb needs less water because it carries its own. For a diffuser liquid, most people start at 50/50 glycerin to propylene glycol and adjust from there. Glycerin thickens in the cold and thins when warm, so a bottle that looks solid in winter is fine, just warm it in your hands.
Goes with. Bottle a finished glycerite in 2 oz amber dropper bottles for a full batch, or 10 ml bottles for samples and travel. For a diffuser or refill blend, thin it with propylene glycol and fill 30 ml squeeze bottles or empty 510 cartridges. Everything else is in Accessories and DIY Supplies.
