Akuammine vs Akuamma: What's the Difference?

Akuammine vs akuamma is a plant vs compound question. Akuamma is the seed of Picralima nitida, a West African tree with a long history of traditional use. Akuammine is the single most abundant alkaloid inside that seed. One is the whole natural material, the other is one compound taken out of it, and they are sold, priced and measured very differently.

What is akuamma?

Akuamma is the seed itself. Whole, the seeds are hard, intensely bitter, and traditionally ground or chewed. The seed does not contain akuammine alone: it carries a family of related alkaloids, including akuammidine, akuammicine and pseudo-akuammigine, in ratios that vary from seed to seed because nothing has been standardized. We sell it three ways: whole akuamma seed, akuamma seed extract powder, and akuamma resin. Our akuamma seed forms compared guide walks through those three.

What is akuammine?

Akuammine is an indole alkaloid, the main one in the seed, and it makes up only a small share of the seed by weight, about 0.56% of dried seed powder. An isolate takes that one compound out of the seed material entirely. Our akuammine isolate powder is that single compound as a fine powder. It is not ground seed and it is not a whole-seed extract, and because it is one compound at full concentration, it is sold in small sizes, 0.5g to 50g, and weighed in milligrams.

Akuammine vs akuamma, side by side

  • What it is: akuamma is the whole seed and everything in it. Akuammine is one alkaloid isolated from that seed.

  • Strength by weight: whole seed is the mildest form. Seed extract powder concentrates all of the seed's alkaloids together. The isolate is the strongest by weight because the powder is the single compound.

  • Consistency: whole seed varies naturally. Extract powder is more consistent scoop to scoop. The isolate is the most consistent of all, because there is only one compound to measure.

  • Price: whole seed is the cheapest way in. The isolate costs the most per gram, because isolating one compound from a seed where it is a fraction of a percent takes far more raw material and work.

  • Measuring: whole seed is worked in grams. The isolate belongs on a milligram scale that reads to 0.001g. Spoons and kitchen scales are not accurate enough.

Which one should you buy?

Buy akuamma if you want the traditional whole-seed material, the full mix of alkaloids as the seed carries them, or the lowest cost per gram. Buy the extract powder if you want that same full mix concentrated and easier to measure. Buy akuammine isolate if you specifically want the single main alkaloid on its own, in the smallest and most precise form we sell. Everything in this comparison is in our extracts shop, and all of it is sold for adults 21 and over.
