Kratom Extract Salt vs Freebase: What's the Difference?
If you have shopped for kratom extracts for any length of time, you have seen the same percentages sold in two different forms: freebase and salt. The percentage tells you how concentrated the extract is. The form tells you how it behaves — and picking the right one matters more than most listings explain.
What "freebase" means
Freebase extract is mitragynine in its base form: a dry, concentrated powder. This is the classic MIT powder most extract buyers know. It does not dissolve in water — stir it into a drink and it will float and clump rather than mix. Our 70% mitragynine freebase extract and our 85% mitragynine freebase extract (MIT powder) are both freebase powders, made for experienced users who measure carefully and want maximum concentration per gram.
What "salt" means
A salt extract is mitragynine converted into its hydrochloride (HCl) salt form. That one change makes it water soluble: it dissolves into water, juice, or tea instead of floating on top. Our 70% mitragynine salt extract — water soluble MIT is the pick for anyone who takes their extract in a drink and is tired of the clumping. Same 70% concentration as the freebase — different behavior in the glass.
Side by side
Concentration: both forms come in the same strengths. Our salt and freebase are both 70%; freebase also comes in 85% for the strongest option we carry, and 30% mitragynine kratom extract
for a milder starting point.
Mixing: salt dissolves in liquid; freebase does not and is usually tossed back or mixed into something thick.
Measuring: both are concentrated powders. Use a milligram scale that reads to 0.001g and start very small — a little goes a long way with any extract at these percentages.
Taste: salt in a drink spreads the bitterness through the whole glass; freebase keeps it to one quick swallow. Neither one is winning a flavor award.
Which should you buy?
Choose the salt form if you mix your extract into drinks and want it to actually dissolve. Choose freebase if you want the classic MIT powder, the widest strength range, or the 85% top end. If percentages themselves are new to you, start with our guide to kratom extract percentages explained — it breaks down what 30%, 70%, and 85% actually mean before you spend anything.
Whichever form you pick, every extract on our shelf lists its strength in the name, comes in sizes from 1 gram up to bulk, and is sold for adults 21 and over.
